IVF Success Rates and Age: What You Need to Know

Most fertility clinics in Bengaluru counsel patients and project success rates in-terms of clinical pregnancies achieved. However patients must realize that its not a clinical pregnancy that matters but the birth of a child. A sizeable fraction of pregnancies through assisted reproduction (about 10-20%) are lost during the first or second trimester as miscarriages.

In order to understand the impact that age of the female partner has on live birth rates, we ran a small data experiment using the IVF success rate estimator by CDC. We assumed a woman who weighs about 130 pounds and 5 feet tall, who has had no past pregnancies and estimated the chances of live births across one IVF cycle and 3 transfers between the ages of 27 and 45. We selected male factor infertility as the initial diagnosis as this suggests a healthy female partner. Here are the results:
